- Irish-American Crossroad Festival – Children’s Hour Of Dance & Music
Date: March 7, 2015 11:30am-12:30pm
Location: Fisher Children’s Center, 2nd Floor, SF Public Library, 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
Enjoy traditional Irish dancing and Gaelic children’s songs with performers from the Brosnan School of Irish Dance. I would love for Caleb to learn the Irish jig. He is, after all, 1/8 Irish.
- St. Patrick’s Church
Date: March 14, 2015 9:00am
Location: 756 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103
From the parish secretary:
“There will be a Mass celebrated at 9am with the involvement of the Irish American Society (they participate with their choir, Irish county flags, bag pipes etc.) It is a very festive celebration and a joyous one! There are always children in attendance as well. Every year there is a reception in our parish hall after the Mass and then the city parade starts.”
- Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade
Date: March 14, 2015 10:00am -5:00pm
Location: Civic Center Plaza, 355 McAllister St, San Francisco, CA 94103
Everything on my March 2015 calendar revolves around this event. Not only do kids get to embrace Irish culture through performances, crafts, and food but there’ll be a petting zoo and pony rides too. Hooooray! The parade begins at 11:30am but try to get there early and please take Muni.
- Annual Greenfest Block Party with Java Beach
Date: March 15, 2015, TBA
Location: The United Irish Cultural Center, 2700 45th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116
Details for this event have yet to be announced but word on the street is that it is the most legit spot to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Expect food, music, dancing, and maybe some face painting for the kids? Plus, who doesn’t like a block party, yo?
- Patrick’s Day Kids Run
Date: March 15, 2015 9:45am -10:00am
Location: East Beach at Crissy Field, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, 1199 East Beach, San Francisco, CA 94129
This is part of a larger 5K that runs along Crissy Field/Golden Gate Promenade. Kids under 12 are free to why not let them run wild in a green suit?
- John Campbell’s
Location: 5625 Geary Blvd. San Francisco, CA 94121
Caleb and his mama are fans of the Chocolate Chip scones!
- Celtic Coffee Company
Location: 142 McAllister Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
Disclaimer: I’ve never actually been here but the reviews say that the Irish scones are great, the environment is chill, and the service is friendly. I’ll probably stop by before the festival.
- United Irish Cultural Center
Location: 2700 45th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116
If you have a large group, this is a great spot to avoid crowds and wait time.
Other Honorable Mentions
- City Hall Green Lighting
Location: 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA 94102 See City Hall turn green at night.
I believe this goes on for the entire week. I’ll update as soon as I find out for sure.
- If you prefer to avoid the pub crawls and crowds, try this Easy Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe and fun family Bingo game or kiddo activity page.
I won’t be able to visit all of these but if you do, let me know how it went! Also, feel free to send me any additional suggestions. I would love to hear how you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your children! Until then, #GoGreen.
